2025-26 Wrestler of the Week

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending March 1st, 2026, is 110 lb. sophomore, Xavier Seabury, of North Babylon.

Seabury won four matches at the NYSPHSAA State Championships, to claim the 110 lbs. NYS D1 title. In the semifinals, he knocked off 2X State Champion, William Soto, of Newburgh. And in the finals, he edged 4-time NYS placer (7/3/3/2), Ethan Andreula, of Long Beach. This was a rematch of their Eastern States final where Seabury suffered his lone setback of the season.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 15th, 2026, is 285 lb. senior, Valdey Pierre, of Sachem North.

Pierre won four matches (3 by pin, and a 4-0 finals victory) at the Section XI Division 1 Tournament, to claim the 285 lb. Suffolk County title. His finals victory also clinched a dramatic, come from behind Suffolk County Championship for Sachem North - their first since 1992!

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 8th, 2026, is 144 lb. senior, Brendon Katimbang, of Chaminade.

Katimbang recorded 4 pins (all under 1:30) to capture the 144 lb. NSCHSAA Championship. This is Brendon's third CHSAA title and brings his season record to 37-5.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending, February 1st, 2026, is 157 lb. senior, Joseph Broooks, of Massapequa.

Brooks, wrestling up at 165 lbs., went 3-0 at the NYS Dual Meet Championships. His biggest win of the day was a decisive pin over his opponent from Minisink Valley, which helped lead Massapequa to a 31-30 victory and send them to the finals where they would capture their first NYS Dual Meet Title!

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending, January 25th, 2026, is 110 lb. senior, Nicolo Dolson, of Miller Place.

Dolson recorded a pin over 2025 D2 3rd, Kevin Collins/Mattituck, and a TF over 2025 D2 4th, Bradley Brandt/SWR. These victories helped propel Miller Place to the 2026 Section XI D2 Dual Meet title!

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending, January 11th 2026, is 110 lb sophomore, Ethan Andreula, of Long Beach.

Andreula claimed 5 victories (2 TFs, 1 MD) to win the loaded 110 lb. bracket at the Eastern States Classic. In the semifinals, he defeated 2025 State Champion, Jonny Tutku of Massapequa, and in the finals he edged Xavier Seabury (2025 NYS 3rd) of North Babylon.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 4th, 2026, is 103 lb. freshman, Benjamin Marino,of Bay Shore.

Marino recorded 10 victories this week, to improve his record to 23-0, and captured titles at both the Raider Invitational and the Rocky Gilmore Classic.

This included 6 technical falls, and 1 pin, as well as wins over League 1 Champion, Aidan Jacobellis (Pat-Med), #5 Ranked Colten Riordan (Commack), and #3 Ranked Jace Rooney (East Islip).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 21st, 2025, is 165 lb. senior, Hazem Nasser of Half Hollow Hills West.

Nasser was 5-0 for the week, including wins over Connor Fabian (Mount Sinai/Ranked #4 Suffolk D2), Luca Caltagirone (Port Jefferson/Ranked #2 Suffolk D2) and a pin over Spencer Nassire (Islip/4th Suffolk D1/Ranked #3).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 14th, 2025, is 144 lb. senior, Alex Southworth of Miller Place.

Alex, the number three seed, was the champion at the Carl Korpi Scramble on Saturday. He had victories over two ranked opponents. A technical fall over #3 ranked Ryder Antonucci from Mattituck, and a pin over the 2025 county champion and #2 ranked Justin D'Arce from Center Moriches in the finals.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 7th, 2025, is 126 lb. senior, Jaden Baron of Ward Melville.

Baron went 4-0 at the Sprig Gardner Invitational at East Hampton, including a finals win over 2025 Suffolk County Champion and State Finalist, Austin Bronco Campsey

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending November 30th, 2025, is 138 lb. junior, Melania Turano from North Babylon representing Bay Shore Girls.

Melania won the Lady Knights Classic at Uniondale, winning every match by tech fall.
In the championship bout, she defeated last year's Section XI champion, who also placed 4th in NYS last season. .
