The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 25, 2024, is 190 lb. junior, Greyson Meak of Cold Spring Harbor HS.

Meak recorded 4 wins at the state tournament in Albany to become the 190 lb. Division 2 State Champion.  This included 3 wins by fall and a 5-3 victory in the finals over Tavio Hoose of Southwestern-VI.  Hoose had defeated Meak in last year’s state final and again at this year’s Eastern States Classic.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 11, 2024, is 170 lb. senior, Christopher Reddy of Bay Shore HS.

Christopher won four matches this past weekend at Stony Brook University to become the Section XI 170 lb. D1 Champion.  This included two technical falls and a major decision and continued Christpher’s dominant season (42-0, 40 bonus point victories).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 4, 2024, is 116 lb. sophomore, Anthony Severino of Lindenhurst HS.

Anthony won four matches on Saturday to capture first place at the League 2 Tournament. He had 2 shutout victories and 2 pins, including wins over All County, Julian Medina (Conn) and All County, Mike Tietjen (Sachem East).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 27, 2024, is 120 lb. senior, Yianna Foufas of Mepham HS.

Yianna won four matches on Saturday to capture her 2nd NYSPHSAA Invitational (Girls State Tournament) championship.  Her four wins included 2 pins and two major decisions (11-2 over returning state finalist, Brooke Tarshis, of Pine Bush and 12-3 over returning state champion, Alexandra Viera, of Rocky Point).  The loaded 120 bracket included a 3rd returning state champion, Ashley Diaz, of Seaford.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 14, 2024, is 138 lb. senior, Brayden Fahrbach of Mount Sinai HS.

Brayden was 6-0 for the week, including 5 wins at the Eastern States Classic to capture first place.  At the Eastern States Classic, Brayden scored 4 shutout victories and outscored his opponents 50-5 overall.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 7, 2024, is 116 lb. 8th grader, Matthew McDermott of Smithtown East HS.

Matthew was 5-0 for the week, including 4 wins at the Smithtown Tournament to capture first place.  This included 3 wins over All-County wrestlers - Jack Meyer (WF), Zachary Rothenberg (WM) and Julian Medina (Conn).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 31, 2023, is 108 lb. freshman, Anthony LaGala Ryan of Longwood HS.

At the 57th Mid Hudson Tournament at Arlington, Anthony went 8-0 over two days to capture first place.  This included 4 pins, 2 technical falls, and a 9-7 win over 2023 state champion Connor Merli of NFA.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 24, 2023, is 215 lb. senior, Juan Ramos of Freeport HS.

On Thursday, Juan defeated Ben Rivezzo (Oceanside), 4-1, ranked #2 in Section 8, and the following day, he bumped up to 285 and defeated returning County Finalist, Joseph Arbitello (East Meadow) by a 4-2 score.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 17, 2023, is 124 lb. freshman, Gavin Mangano of Shoreham-Wading River HS.

Gavin was 6-0 for the week, including 2 pins and 2 technical falls, and a 4-3 decision over 2X defending NYS D1 Champion, Matt Marlow (Northport). Congratulations Gavin !

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 10, 2023, is 124 lb. senior, Chris Colon of Shoreham-Wading River HS.

Colon was 6-0 for the week, including 3 first period pins, a decision over 2x Sectional Finalist/2x All State, Mason Mangialino (Comsewogue) and a win over Section Champ/NYS 2nd, Gavin Mangano (SWR), to capture first place at the Carl T Korpi Scramble at Miller Place.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 3, 2023, is 116lb sophomore, Will Russell of Manhasset HS.

Earning the top spot on the podium at the Manhasset Invitational, he defeated last season's Division 2 NYSPHSAA State Champion, Tommy Aiello of John Glenn, 5-2. Aiello comes into the 2023-24 season after a 36-0 campaign last year and defeating the #1 and #2 seed to earn his state title. A great early season win for Will.
