Athletic Benefits: The
hip thrust is the best exercise to target the glute specifically. It is
the only barbell movement the directly oppose the movement of hip
extension. This pattern is critically for running, jumping, and finishing
takedowns for combat sports. When performing this exercise the athlete
must use a bar pad to help protect the hips and pelvis in order to prevent
bruising.
