Planks Movement Category: Core Athletic Benefits: This exercise is the basis for all core stability. The plank will teach the athlete to resist extension of the spine, which is extremely important to prevent low back pain and injuries. Full body tension is a necessary skill to learn in order to maximize the benefits of many other exercises in the weight room as well as to improve overall core strength. The plank is a great exercise to teach this.
