Zercher Good Morning

Movement Category: Hip Dominant

Athletic Benefits: The DB zercher good morning an amazing exercise to help develop the posterior chain and lower back. It is extremely important to work the muscles of the posterior chain and lower back to help prevent injuries on the mat.  This is a great exercise to teach the “hip hinge” which is crucial for all types of deadlifts. Hip extension exercise are extremely important for sprawling, throwing and finishing  all of your takedown attempts

Exercise Modification Body Weight Good Morning

If you are working with young athlete don’t be afraid to just do this exercise using your body weight. In order to make the exercise harder you can bring your arm overhead. It is critical that this exercise is done with a neutral spine as illustrated in the picture above. You should feel a good stretch in the hamstring with this move!
