STATEN ISLAND, New York * Five Hofstra wrestlers recorded falls, and two others tallied tech falls to make new Coach Tom Shifflet’s debut a successful one with a 56-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory at Wagner College (0-5, 0-1) at the Spiro Sports Center Tuesday night. The 11th-ranked Pride (1-0, 1-0) extended their conference dual match undefeated streak to 48 (47-0-1) matches including 45 consecutive victories.

In a match that lasted just 42 minutes with two Wagner forfeits, only two bouts went past the first period as the Pride rolled by the Seahawks. Freshman Lou Ruggirello posted the quickest of the five falls, pinning Wagner freshman Joe Cipriano in 41 seconds at 133 pounds. Junior Charles Griffin, ranked 14th at 141 pounds, pinned junior Joe Eurell in 1:02. Senior James Strouse, ranked 12th at 157 pounds, pinned freshman Chris Parish in 1:24.

Senior Matt Pollock, a transfer from Cornell University, pinned junior John Graeffe in 2:06 at heavyweight. Returning All-American, senior Chris Weidman, ranked sixth in the country, recorded a fall at 197 pounds over Robert Rivera in 2:07 seconds.

Senior Mike Patrovich, ranked third at 165 pounds, posted a tech fall over sophomore Sean Quinn in 2:41 by a score of 15-0. Junior Dave Tomasette, ranked 20th at 125 pounds, cruised to a tech fall win over Nick Keshecki in 5:00 by a 17-2 count. Senior Mike Parziale tallied the only decision that went the distance with a 14-5 major decision over senior Justin Ensign. Sophomore Alton Lucas, at 174 pounds, and junior Joe Rovelli, at 184 pounds, posted victories by forfeit.

Shifflet and the Pride will make their home debut at the David S. Mack Sports Complex (formerly Hofstra Arena) Wednesday night (Nov. 15) when they host the Black Knights of Army. Match time is 7 p.m.
