PRIDE EXTEND CONFERENCE UNDEFEATED STREAK TO 36
After a Hofstra forfeit at heavyweight, and a BU forfeit at 125 tied the score at 6-6, 13th-ranked Griffin (Reading, PA) posted a pin in 3:05 at 133 pounds to give the Pride a 12-6 lead. Griffin improved to 11-2 on the year. Senior Ricky LaForge (Pompton Lakes, NJ), ranked sixth nationally at 141, recorded a 3-0 decision over Joey Rivera to boost the lead to 15-6.
The Terriers highlight came at 149 pounds as unranked Rayes Gonzales upset fourth-ranked Hofstra junior Jon Masa (Long Beach, NY) 9-7. Masa fell to 9-4 on the year as the Terriers closed to 15-9. But Hofstra won the next five matches, including major decisions by sophomore James Strouse (Levittown, NY) (9-5) over Greg Politi 14-4 at 157, freshman Joe Rovelli (Wilkes-Barre, PA) (9-3) over Tom Sforza 8-0 at 184, and senior Chris Skretkowicz (Hamburg, NJ) (12-1) over John DaCruz 8-0 at 197.
Hofstra junior Mike Patrovich (Bohemia, NY) made his first appearance since the 2002-03 season with a 4-2 victory over Zach Jones.
