CORTLAND, N.Y. - Nationally 14th-ranked Cortland won six of the first seven bouts to open up a commanding 24-3 lead en route to a 30-9 win over visiting RIT Tuesday night at Corey Gymnasium. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 6-1 in dual matches, while the Tigers fell to 0-2.

Sophomore Jack Holmgren (Patchogue/Patchogue-Medford) started the Red Dragons off with a 8-2 decision at 141 pounds to stake Cortland to a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Jaret Misener (Schoharie) earned a 10-5 decision at 149 pounds to make it 6-0 in favor of Cortland. After RIT freshman Chad Sutliffe (Linesville, PA) posted a 5-0 win at 157 pounds to pull the Tigers to within 6-3, freshman Stephon Sair (Huntington) made a late rally to secure a 9-6 win at 165 and junior Billy Sisley (Jamestown) earned an 8-2 decision at 174 pounds to stretch the Red Dragons lead to 12-3.

Cortland junior Trevor Comeau (Fultonville/Fonda-Fultonville) was awarded a forfeit victory at 184 pounds, followed by a late pin by senior Jake Armstrong (Walton) at 197 to make it 24-3 with three bouts remaining. Freshman Adam Abdelhamed (Secaucus, NJ) recorded a hard-fought 3-1 overtime win for the Tigers at heavyweight, but Cortland freshman Ryan Burtis (Farmingdale) registered a pin just 1:28 into his 125-pound bout to make it 30-6. RIT freshman Nate Garrels (Emmetsburg, IA) finished the match with a 7-2 decision at 133 pounds.

The Red Dragons won the match despite not suiting up a majority of their top wrestlers. Cortland next wrestles on December 22 when the Red Dragons travel to Nevada for the Las Vegas Duals, while the Tigers return to action this Saturday when they travel to the Springfield (MA) Tournament.
