Long Island's Jon Masa Makes Run For The Olympics

Jon Masa, a graduate of Long
Beach High School in 2000 and currently wrestling at Hofstra University, will be
leaving for Puerto Rico and trying out for their National Wrestling Team. If
Jon is successful, he can qualify to wrestle for Puerto Rico at the 2003 World
Championships in NYC, and also earn a spot in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens,
Greece.

The Long Island Wrestling
Association would like to ask for your assitance in helping Jon reach this goal.
Your monetary support will enable Jon to travel to and from Puerto Rico.
A two time Nassau County
Champion and a High School National Champion, Masa was coached at Long Beach by
Paul Gillespie and Ray Adams. He is now coached by Tom Ryan at Hofstra
University. While at Hofstra for the past two years, Masa has earned All
American honors by placing seventh at this past years NCAA Division 1
tournament. He is currently ranked #3 nationally in his respective weight
class.
Jon is a two-time CAA Conference Champion. In his freshman year, Masa
was voted to the second team all freshman team in NCAA Division 1 competition.
He also placed third at this years prestigious Midlands Tournament.
Masa has
not lost a conference match in his two years of competition.
Gaining international experience
during the 2003-2004 year will give Jon the added experience and confidence
needed to make a run for an NCAA title when he returns to compete for Hofstra in
2004-05 and 2005-06.
