2004 CAA Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--All-American Chris Skretkowicz of Hofstra University was named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Year, and Donnie Fisch of Rider University and Payam Zarrinpour of Sacred Heart University were named the CAA Rookies of the Year.

Hofstra Head Coach Tom Ryan was named the CAA Coach of the Year.

Skretkowicz, a junior 197 from Hamburg, NJ (Wallkill Valley Regional), placed fifth at the NCAA National Championship Tournament this year. After an 8-0 CAA dual meet season, Skretkowicz won his weight class at the CAA Championship, leading Hofstra to its third consecutive CAA Team Title. Skretkowicz finished the season 41-4.

During the season Skretkowicz won his weight class at both the New York States and the Keystone Classic, and was a perfect 6-0 at the 2004 NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals.

Fisch, a freshman 133 from Williamstown, NJ (Delsea Regional), compiled a 15-2 dual meet record in his first season out of high school, 7-1 in the CAA, and finished runner-up in the CAA Championship tournament. Fisch advanced to Nationals with a 30-4 record. During the season Fisch won his weight class at Beast of the East Tournament, and placed third at Penn's Keystone Classic and Lock Haven's Mat Town tournaments, and was the CAA Rookie of the Week six times.

Zarrinpour, a freshman heavyweight from Iran, won his weight class at the CAA Championships in his first year of wrestling college style, and went on to win two matches at Nationals. Following a 9-1 CAA dual meet season, Zarrinpour finished with an overall record of 33-10. During the season Zarrinpour won his weight class at the Wilkes Open.

Ryan led Hofstra to its third CAA title in as many years in the conference, and to Hofstra's fourth consecutive conference championship. This year he escorted eight Hofstra wrestlers to Nationals, where the Pride won 17 bouts. At the CAAs Hofstra compiled 111 points, 41 points ahead of second place Rider.
