2021-22 Wrestler of the Week

The first LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 27th, 2022, is 102 lb. 8th grader, Dunia Sibomana of Long Beach HS.

Wrestling out of the #3 seed, Sibomana registered four decisive victories, including a first period fall in the finals, to claim the 102 lb. Division 1 state crown.
Dunia is now only the third 8th grader from Long Island to win a state title, Jacori Teemer (also from Long Beach) and Adam Busiello (Eastport-SM), being the other two.

The second LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 27th, 2022, is 126 lb. junior, Max Gallagher of Bayport-Blue Point HS.
The top-seeded Gallagher continued his dominant season, (4-0, 2 falls, major decision, technical fall) to capture his first state title, after finishing 3rd (2019) and 2nd (2020).
Gallagher’s run through the state tournament improved his season-record to 40-0.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 13th, 2022, is 215 lb. junior, Keno Zachary of Syosset HS.

Wrestling out of the #6 seed, Zachary won five matches (three by fall) to claim the Section VIII D1 215 lb. crown and punch his ticket to the NYS Championships. 

His wins included victories over the #4, #3, and #2 seeds.

Congratulations Keno and good luck in Albany!

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending February 6th, 2022, is 118 lb. sophomore, Matt Marlow of Northport HS.

Marlow (ranked #6 Suffolk D1, 118 lbs.) was 4-0 at the Section XI, League 2 Tournament.  His four wins included three pins, and a 4-2 decision in the finals, over Christian Lievano of Ward Melville.
Lievano (ranked #1 Suffolk D1, 118 lbs.) is a 2x Sectional Finalist/NYS D1 4th, 2020.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 23rd, 2022, is 132 lb. senior, Devin Walker of Brentwood HS
.
Walker (Ranked #4 Suffolk D1, 132 lbs) was 4-0 during the week to help his team capture the Suffolk County Dual Meet Championship.  Moving up to 138 lbs for the tournament, he recorded 4 victories, including wins over the #2 and #3 ranked wrestlers at 138 lbs.  Good luck to the Indians this weekend at the State Dual Meet Tournament.

The first LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 16th, 2022, is 132 lb. junior, Nick LaMorte of Rocky Point HS.

LaMorte (Ranked #1 Suffolk D1/2020 Sectional Champ) was 6-0 for the week, including 3 impressive victories at the Battle at the Harbor at Cold Spring Harbor. LaMorte defeated Ryan Paladino (Kellenberg/3rd Catholic States), Thomas Bonasera (Wantagh/#3 Nassau D1) and in the final round, he bumped up to 138 and decisioned Matthew Castillo of Port Washington (Ranked #2/Nassau runner-up 2020).

The second LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 16th, 2022, is 126 lb. senior, Nick Chimienti of East Meadow HS.

Chimienti (Ranked #4 Nassau D1) was 6-0 for the week, including a win in the decisive match vs Herricks to lead his team to victory. At the Baldwin Tournament, Nick pinned Billy Colloca of West Babylon (Ranked #2 Suffolk D1) and in the finals he decisioned Ariel Waldman/Hewlett (Ranked #1 Nassau D1/Sectional runner-up 2020).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 9th, 2022, is 126 lb. senior, Wyatt Parker, of Long Beach.

Ranked 3rd in Nassau D1, Parker went 4-0 during the week, including a decisive major decision over Ryan Arbeit/Wantagh (#2 ranked/5th Sec. VIII 2020).

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending January 2nd, 2022 is 138lb. senior, Jared Weinhaus, of Sachem East.

Ranked 1st in Suffolk D1, Weinhaus was 7-0 at the Joe Davidson Memorial Tournament.  This included wins over the 3rd and 4th ranked wrestlers in Section XI at 138 (Rivera/Sayville, Miller/Islip) and in the finals, he defeated 2X state placer (4th 2020, 2nd 2019), ranked #1 Section 8 D1, Killian Foy of MacArthur.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 26th, 2021, is 132 lb. sophomore, Chris Holm of Northport.

Holm, ranked #6, pinned #4 ranked Jace Yannucciello, of Ward Melville, to help his team win their League 2 dual.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 19th, 2021, is 138 lb. sophomore, Zach Miller of Islip.

Miller (Ranked 4th) recorded two big wins during the week.  On Wednesday, he moved up to 145 lbs. and recorded a technical fall to help his team win a close League V dual with Sayville.  Then, on Friday, he pinned #1 ranked/2020 Suffolk D1 Champ, Nick Lamorte of Rocky Point.

The LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 12th, 2021, is 145 lb. senior, Justin Klein of Miller Place.

Klein (Ranked 2nd/6th Section XI, 2020) went 6-0 this past week, with 4 pins and two major decisions over ranked opponents.  Early in the week, he moved up to 160 lbs. and defeated #4 ranked Braden Ainslie of Sayville, helping his team to win a close dual.  This past weekend, he defeated #2 ranked (152) Jack Pickersgill of Sachem East, in the finals of the Carl T. Korpi Scramble.

The first LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 5, 2021, is 118lb sophomore, Joseph Manfredi of Herricks HS.

Manfredi (2020 NYS D1 2rd, 99 lbs.) was 5-0 at the Herricks Invitational, including a 4-2 victory over Mikey Manta, Hauppauge (2020 NYS D1 3rd, 99 lbs.).


The second LIWA Wrestler of the Week, for the week ending December 5, 2021, is 145lb senior, Jackson Polo of Cold Spring Harbor HS.

Polo (2X All State-D2) won the Manhasset Invitational, with a 9-3 finals win over All-County, Jake Roszko of Manhasset. The previous weekend, Polo won the Knights Classic with a 19-5 win over All-County, Ryan Romano of Island Trees. Polo was named MOW of both tournaments.
