2015-16 Wrestler of the Week

 


Week 10 - Josh Bourne of Long Beach and Kyle Mock of Huntington

The week ten LIWA Co-Wrestler of the Week for the 2015-16 season is Josh Bourne of Long Beach and Kyle Mock of Huntington

Wrestling unseeded at 120 lbs., Bourne went 5-0 including wins over the #2, #3, and #1 seeded wrestlers to win the Nassau County Championship.


In Suffolk, wrestling out of the #5 spot, Mock was 4-0, including wins over a sectional runner-up as well as the #4, #1, and #3 seeded wrestlers.


Week 9 - Nick Munsch of Commack

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week ending February 7th is Nick Munsch of Commack.  Wrestling at 145 lbs, Nick went 4-0 to win the League 1 Tournament.  This included wins over the #4 and #5 ranked wrestlers in Section XI.


Week 8 - Hunter Scutellaro of Massapequa

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week ending Janauary 30 is Hunter Scutellaro of Massapequa.  Wrestling at 120 lbs, Hunter was 4-0 in the Nassau Dual Meet Championships, including a win by fall over Michael Killard (Wantagh, 3rd Section 8, ranked #1) and Matt Maquet (Long Beach, 3rd Section 8, ranked #3).


Week 7 - Dillon Roske of Kings Park

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week ending Janauary 16 is Dillon Roske of Kings Park.  The unranked senior, in Kings Park's dual meet with ESM, pinned #3 Matt DeFrancis to help KP win the match.

His win also avenged two losses to DeFrancis last season..


Week 6 - Dylan Ryder of Half Hollow Hills West

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week ending Janauary 16 is Dylan Ryder of Half Hollow Hills West.  Wrestling unseeded at 99 lbs at the Eastern States Classic, the talented sophomore would go 5-0 to capture the title.

This included technical falls over 2 Small School Sectional Runner-ups, as well as victories over the top 2 ranked wrestlers in NYS – Preston Maucere of Deer Park and Greg Diakomihalis of Hilton.


Week 5 - Mark Rivera of Long Beach

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week ending January 9 is 220 lb. Junior Mark Rivera of Long Beach.  Facing Hilton in the championship match of the UE Duals, and the team score knotted at 31, Rivera would square off with Sectional Bronze medalist John Fuino. Down 1-0 early, Rivera would rally and score the winning takedown as time expired to win the match and the dual.

Strong consideration was also given to Christian Tartaglia of CSH for his victory over Owen Bachelder and Joe Lanciotti of SJB for his victory over Kyle Mosher.


Week 4 - Joe Giorlando of Long Beach

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 19 is Joe Giorlando of Long Beach.  The 170 lb. Junior won the Massapequa Holiday Tournament with 3 dominant wins, including the defeat of Section XI runner-up and state qualifier, Marcus Bisono of Hauppauge.


Week 3 - Preston Maucere of Deer Park

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 19 is Preston Maucere of Deer Park.  At the Coach Luksik Classic Duals at Deer Park, the freshman 99 lber. went a perfect 6-0, and was unscored upon. This included wins over League Champion, Ryan Meisner of Lindenhurst; 4th place Section XI, Jonathan Spadafora of Hills East; and Section XI runner-up, Tony Negron of North Babylon.


Week 2- James Trezza of Smithtown East

Trezza’s scrambling ability proved to be the difference in his late, come from behind, 6-5 victory over Hunter Dusold (2X County Champion, 5th and 1st in NYS) in the 132 lb finals of the Gray-Fitzgerald Invitational at Sayville.

Week 1 - Michael Killard of Wantagh

The LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 5 is Michael Killard of Wantagh.  Michael took 1st place in the loaded 120 lb bracket at the Battle at the Beach at Long Beach.

Killard went 4-0 on the day with two pins and decisions over All County wrestlers John Kalinoglu of Massapequa and Josh Bourne of Long Beach.  All State Kyle Mosher was also in the bracket.
