Week 11- This weeks LIWA Wrestler of
the Week is 126lb Senior Nick Piccininni of Ward Melville.
The
final LIWA Wrestler of the Week for the 2015 season is Nick Piccininni
of Ward Melville HS.
Nick won his 4th state title this past weekend, punctuating a career
that included:
· 225-5 career record
· 4 time League 1 Champion
· 5 time Suffolk Champion
· 5 time All State
· 4 time NYS Champion
· 1 time State MOW

Week 10- This weeks LIWA Wrestler of
the Week is 120lb Junior Alex Vargas of Syosset.
After
many outstanding performances this past weekend, Alex Vargas of
Syosset HS has been chosen as the LIWA Wrestler of the Week
In the 120 lb Nassau Division 1 Championships, Alex defeated 2014
Nassau champ and state runner up, Peter Pappas of PJFK.
Vargas was voted the OW and CofC of the tournament;
congratulations Alex!

Week 9- This weeks LIWA Wrestler of
the Week is 220lb Senior Anthony DiMatteo of Sachem North.
In
the finals of the League 2 Tournament, Anthony recorded a 6-3 decision
over Vin Feola of Walt Whitman. Feola was the 2014 Section XI
Champion, state runner-up, and is currently ranked nationally.

Week 8- This week’s Wrestler(s) of the Week is the
John Glenn Wrestling Team.
Despite being faced with an extremely difficult circumstance, the
John Glenn Knights won 4 dual meets on their way to winning the
inaugural Suffolk County Dual Meet Championships. This included close wins over very strong
teams from Brentwood, Hauppauge, and Rocky Point.

Week 7- Senior, Joe Demasi of
Islip has been selected as the LIWA Wrestler of the Week.
Wrestling
at 170 lbs, Joe
defeated All-County Nick Garone of ESM and All-County Joe Puca of
Huntington, the latter win helping his team defeat Huntington and
secure a spot in the Dual Meet Championships.
Joe ended the week by going 3-0 and winning the Bob Armstrong Cup
at Port Jefferson.

Week 6- Senior, Ben Lamantia of
St. Anthony’s has been selected as the LIWA Wrestler of the Week.
This past weekend, Ben became the first wrestler
from NY to place at the always competitive Escape the Rock
Tournament in Pennsylvania when he claimed 3rd at 126 pounds. His
bracket included 3 nationally ranked wrestlers, and he recorded
wins over Ryan Friedman (multiple time Prep AA, NHSCA AA and Fargo
AA, as well as Pennsylvania 5th place finisher, Jacob
Lizak.

Week 5-
Wow! After many outstanding
performances at the ESC, it was extremely difficult to choose a Wrestler
of the Week – so we chose 2. Jakob Restrepo of Sachem East and Edwin Rubio of
John Glenn
Week
five's
first recipient is senior 152 lber Jakob Restrepo, of Sachem
East. Restrepo went 5-0 on Saturday, including 2 TFs, a 2-1 win
over all-state Jesse Porter, and a 4-3 victory over 2014 state champ
Frank Garcia of Norwich.
The
second recipient is Edwin Rubio of John Glenn. The junior big man
(285) was also 5-0, including 3 falls, and two wins in OT in the
semifinals and finals. Edwin’s final win was over nationally ranked
Michael Rogers of Wyoming Seminary. |
Week 4-
Anthony Sobotker of North
Babylon
Week
four's recipient is Anthony Sobotker. The freshman from North
Babylon went 8-0 at the William Maisel Duals at Amityville including
wins over Nassau County Champ Raeco Jackson and All-County Ed Matyka.
Anthony followed that up by winning the Copiague Tournament and being
crowned Champion of Champions.

Week 3- Tommy
Cox of Deer Park
Week
three's recipient is Tommy Cox. The 106 lb junior from Deer Park
defeated sophomore Jonathan Gomez of Locust Valley, with a first
period fall at the Coach Luksik Classic at Deer Park. Cox was the
Suffolk runner up at 99 lbs in 2014, while Gomez was a Division 2
state finalist at 99 lbs.

Week 2- Jake
Einbinder of Bethpage and Elias Kokalis of Great Neck South
Week two's first recipient is senior Jake
Einbinder of Bethpage. The 2014 Section XIII Champion, 6th in NYS (138
lbs) defeated 2014 Section XI runner-up (160 lbs), Matt Porrello of John
Glenn, 9-5.
Jake also set the all-time wins record at Bethpage with 148.
Week two's second recipient is senior
Elias Kokalis of Great Neck South. Elias DNP in Section VIII in 2014
and defeated senior Derek O’Brien, John Glenn (5th in Suffolk 2014),
6-2.

Week 1 - Rick
Stamm of Division
The
LIWA Most Outstanding Wrestler for the week of December 6 is Rick
Stamm of Division. Rick defeated 2X D2 All-State Sam Ward of
Locust Valley in their dual on December 3rd. Stamm recorded a 7-2
decision in his team's early season dual. |
