These rankings are based on the results as of Jan 08, 2008. They are the opinions of a few people who review the results and attempt to make reasonable inferences. The best use of the rankings is to help evaluate the competition at your chosen weight class.

At this point it’s head-to-head matches and common opponents this year that are used to make the rankings. The webmaster has been asked to publish the compiled spreadsheets used to make the rankings. The file “liwa.xls” has all the matches reported to LIWA compiled by weight class, and the file “newsday.xls” has the matches reported to Newsday and similarly compiled. If you don’t see your name on the spreadsheets, it means I don’t know the matches you’ve had ever existed. If it’s because your coach isn’t reporting the matches, have a talk with him about reporting the results; better yet, do it for him. We only know about what’s reported.
We’ve added a new column to the rankings it’s titled in the mix. It’s basically the wrestlers that we’ve identified that are candidates for being ranked in the top 6. That may or may not ever happen depending on future results. They are listed in alphabetical order, so no conclusions should be drawn from there order as to whether they are ranked 4, 5, and 6. We have no opinion other than these are the wrestlers that are currently distinguishing themselves as best as we can tell from the results. For some weights the match ups do not permit an opinion, and so we will not offer one until the results allow us to.

When there are more matches to make good inferences, the top 6 will be ranked. I would expect that to happen somewhere around mid to late January.
