The Nassau Community
College Lions won their sixth consecutive Mid Atlantic Championship this
past weekend. Ten Nassau wrestlers qualified for the NJCAA National
Tournament which will be held in Rochester, Minnesota February 21-22.
Nassau is currently ranked 2nd in the nation. This past
weekend five Nassau wrestlers were Mid Atlantic Champions, Chris
Notte (133lbs) also the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler beat
Michael Slaughter (Spartanburg Methodist) 13-5, Nassau’s Steve Perez
(141lbs) beat Jimmy Stevens (Gloucester CC) 10-5, Eduardo Delgado
(157lbs) beat Domenic Giambanco (Gloucester CC) 10-1, Nassau’s
Dan Daddino (174lbs) pinned Jeremy Honushefsky (Spartanburg
Methodist) 4:26, Nassau’s Chris Gandolfi (184lbs) tech falled
Stephen Earwood (Spartanburg Methodist) 12-0. Three Nassau wrestlers
finished second Silas Murray (125lbs) lost to James Airey
(Middlesex CC) 6-4, Andre Harrison (141lbs) lost to Tim Burdine
(Spartanburg Methodist) last year NJCAA National runner-up 8-3 and
Brandon Williamson (285lbs) was pinned by Dondricus Anderson
(Spartanburg Methodist) in 1:05. The other place winners were at
Martino Sottile 197lbs who took 3rd and Dan
Calvacca (165lbs) finished 4th, losing to the # 1 ranked
NJCAA wrestler Randy Moore Gloucester CC) and John Murray (Spartanburg
Methodist) who finished fourth in last years National tournament. Coach
Schmidt was named Mid Atlantic Coach of the Year. |
